Another dominant second half display secured Galway’s senior ladies footballers more home comforts last Saturday as they blitzed Tyrone in Tuam Stadium to run out 19-point victors and guarantee a return to the same venue three weeks later in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

The Tribeswomen left little doubt about their group winners position despite this being a much tighter affair until Leanne Coen’s 40th minute goal. Olivia Divilly (2) and Róisín Leonard also hit the net over the hour.

Making the initial stages of the national series a home and away format has proven a major winner for the LGFA and Galway played their part in creating the atmosphere and occasion these players deserve.A host of underage teams lined up to provide a guard of honour for last year’s All-Ireland semi-finalists who fielded the same starting personnel from the 15-point takedown of Meath six days earlier.

Bronagh Quinn, Sarah Ní Loingsigh and Hannah Noone were the pick of the defence; Niamh and Siobhán Divilly combined well in midfield; with Kate Slevin, Olivia Divilly and Leonard standing out in attack for Daniel Moynihan’s side.
