Casey takes gold in Galway Women’s Mini Marathon 10K

Last Sunday saw 800 athletes signed up for the Galway Women’s mini marathon in aid of the Galway Simon charity. The race was held in and around Salthill and was well supported en route and a very enjoyable day out for all who competed.
The race was won by Galway City Harriers’ star Regina Casey in 40.29, followed home in 41.25 by Alvy Carragher. The former McNeese College athlete, who is now living in Galway, took the early lead but was reeled in by the experienced Casey in the latter stages. Teresa Doherty was third.
Annaghdown 10K
The seventh annual Annaghdown 10km took place last Friday Midsummer’s day in typical Irish summer conditions of rain and wind.
A total of 153 athletes completed the 10k, and they were lead home by GCH athlete Matt Bidwell in an excellent time of 32.49. Paddy O’Toole of Mayo AC was second just ahead of Chris McGrath GCH in third.
Mayo’s Colette Tuohy took the women’s title in 38.07, while Athenry athletes Jane Ann Meehan and Sinead Foran had a great battle for the minor placings, both breaking 40 minutes in the process.
