THE GALWAY senior football team to face Westmeath in round two of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on Sunday afternoon has been announced.

The Galway team sees one change from the team that defeated Kildare in round one of the All-Ireland SFC.

Dunmore MacHales clubman Shane McGrath is set to make his first start for Galway in Championship action. McGrath comes into the the Tribesmen starting XV with Ciaran Mulhern dropping out of the team.

Fionn McDonagh and Jack Mullen are both named on the Galway bench for the first time in this year’s championship. Meanwhile, Finnian Ó Laoi also comes into the match-day squad. Ciaran Mulhern, Oisin Mac Donnacha and Ryan Roche all drop out of the squad.

Galway face Westmeath in round two of the All-Ireland SFC on Sunday at 2pm in a sold-out Pearse Stadium. The winners will secure their place into the last eight and it also ensures a two break. Meanwhile, the losers will be back in action next weekend on June 20/21 in round three of the All-Ireland SFC.

GAA+ will be showing live coverage of the round two fixture, with Kerry native Brendan Griffin taking charge of the big game.

The counties met during the group stages of the All-Ireland SFC in both 2023 and 2024, with Galway emerging victorious on each occasion.

However, Westmeath have fond memories of Pearse Stadium, having knocked Galway out of the championship there in 2006 with a 1-8 to 0-10 victory.
