DESPITE his side’s final day of the season defeat to Drogheda United, Galway United manager, John Caulfield was in a positive mood after the game.

“It’s the final game of the season, we did what we needed to do already, we had fantastic support tonight, the one disappointing thing is that we couldn’t get a goal for them.

"We’ve had a really good season. People had written us off, there was a walk out of players, but the lads that are here done really well”, he said.

The former Cork City manager stated that one of his main highlights of the season was his side’s recent Premier Division victory over Shamrock Rovers at Eamonn Deacy Park – a result which ended two decades of agony against the Hoops – and admitted the next few weeks will be spent looking to build a squad for 2027.

“The win over Rovers to pretty much get us over the line was great, but there were many highlights.

"I don’t like signalling one thing or game out. It’s obviously now going to be difficult for myself and for some other managers, obviously some teams can get who they like though with the money they have available.

"There won’t be any holidays anyways for the next few weeks,” added the Galway United supremp.

United, who reached the FAI Cup semi-final only to fall by two goals to nil at home to Derry City, had an up and down season, but their main achievement was avoiding the relegation tangle.
