GALWAY’S minor footballers will attempt to save their season this Friday (Tuam Stadium, 7pm) when they take on Sligo in the Connacht semi-final.
The Tribesmen were 16-point winners when the sides met last month but the form of both teams has shifted dramatically in the interim. The Yeats County put 3-10 up against Mayo in defeat before a comprehensive win against Leitrim and a five-point victory over Roscommon.
For Galway’s young players, a crushing 14-point loss to Mayo was compounded by this shocking defeat to Leitrim last Friday. On paper, it didn’t affect Alan Glynn’s team but after the confident swagger shown in their opening two wins, two demoralising losses have killed their momentum.
Even though this was a dead rubber, Galway were still expected to beat a side that had only one point from their opening three games. Galway also made six changes as hurlers Jack Lonergan and Cillian Trayers were rested while the management also left out top scorer Éanna Monaghan.
