Galway camogie side back on track through hard work says Niamh McPeake

GALWAY senior camogie forward Niamh McPeake was in inspirational scoring form hitting 0-5 in her side’s 1-13 to 0-13 win over Waterford in round two of the All-Ireland Championship last Sunday afternoon in Walsh Park.
McPeake has made impressive return from injury after suffering an ACL injury in 2025 and missing last season for Cathal Murray’s side.
The Galway forward said her side were targetting a performance against Waterford after they suffered a defeat to Cork in round one of the All-Ireland Camogie Championship. Aoife Donohue’s goal on six minutes ultimately proved to be the difference between the teams last weekend.
“We would have been really disappointed with our performance last weekend so we came down here looking for a performance more than a result and thankfully we got the two of them,” said McPeake, who walked away with player-of-the-match honours.
Last Sunday’s win on the road for Galway has got their All-Ireland Camogie Championship campaign back on track. Murray’s side will now look to finish their group campaign on a high against Tipperary on Sunday June 28th which would secure their place into the semi-finals.
“We let ourselves down big time last week with our workrate and that’s something we really went after today. When you work hard you’re always going to get the result. It was really tough. Waterford are a really physical team and coming down to their home patch, we knew it was going to be tough but thankfully we came out on the right side.”
Cork sit on top of the table in group one on six points, Galway and Waterford are level on three points and Tipperary are bottom of the table in group one on zero points. Kilkenny and Clare look to step above the rest of the teams in group two with both teams on nine points. Dublin, Limerick and Offaly all sit on three points, Wexford are yet to register points.
Meanwhile, the top two teams in group one will advance directly into the semi-finals of the championship. Third and fourth place in group one will meet first and second place in group two in the quarter-finals of the championship.
