Former Galway footballer transfers back to Maigh Cuilinn

FORMER Galway footballer Owen Gallagher has transferred back to Maigh Cuilinn from his club St Joseph’s in Antrim.
Gallagher initially joined Maigh Cuilinn in 2020 before transferring back to his home club in Antrim for the 2025 season. Now back with the Galway champions, his return is a timely boost for Cathal Clancy's side ahead of the Galway Senior Football Championship. Having previously been part of the Galway senior football panel in 2022 and 2023, Gallagher's direct running, work rate and link-up play in the half-forward line will strengthen an already formidable attack.
Maigh Cuilinn have claimed three Galway senior football titles in the past five seasons and already look like the team to beat as they bid to retain their crown. Although they suffered a narrow Connacht final defeat to St Brigid's last year, their ambition will be to return to the provincial decider. However, with the competitive nature of the Galway championship, their immediate focus will be on retaining Frank Fox.
Former Leitrim goalkeeper Nevin O'Donnell has also joined Maigh Cuilinn this season. O'Donnell, who previously lined out for Leitrim under Andy Moran and was later part of Raymond Galligan's Cavan panel, has transferred from Shannon Gaels in Cavan and adds further experience to the squad.
While Tom Clarke's return to Knockmore left a significant void, the arrivals of Gallagher and O'Donnell have reinforced Maigh Cuilinn's panel and further strengthened their status as favourites to retain the Galway Senior Football Championship title.
The men in green and white begin their Galway SFC campaign against Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir on Saturday evening in Pearse Stadium at 6:30pm.
