CASTLEGAR have been handed a major boost ahead of their crucial Galway Senior Hurling Championship round three clash with Oranmore Maree this weekend.

Greg Thomas will be available for Castlegar this weekend after having his red card from their Galway Senior Hurling Championship defeat to St Thomas rescinded.

The Castlegar forward was sent off by referee Brian Keon in the second half of their round two clash following a high challenge on St Thomas defender Evan Duggan. However, the red card has since been overturned, meaning Thomas is free to line out for Castlegar in their crucial third-round encounter.

Thomas has represented Galway at both minor and U20 level and has also featured for the county in the Walsh Cup. Earlier this year, he was part of the University of Galway team that lost to the University of Limerick in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final.

The Castlegar attacker has already made his mark in this year’s Galway SHC, scoring 0-5 from play across their opening two games.

Tomas Mannion’s side are still searching for their first win in Group Four, having drawn with Sarsfields before suffering a defeat to St Thomas in an entertaining contest.

Castlegar face Oranmore-Maree at Kenny Park on Sunday at 4pm in the final round of the group stages. The game forms part of a double-header, with Turloughmore taking on Ardrahan at 2.15pm. Both games will be streamed live on Galway GAA TV.

A win or draw will guarantee Castlegar a place in the preliminary quarter-finals, while defeat would see them drop into the relegation semi-finals.

Former Galway senior hurler Ger Farragher has been in excellent scoring form for the city club, hitting an impressive 1-23 across their opening two championship games.
