Beagh and Moylan’s future still up in the air

THE fallout from Beagh’s senior hurling relegation victory over Kinvara last September continues . . . with two appeals currently being processed.
Beagh player John Moylan, who is based in Boston, was hit with a proposed 48-week ban by the Galway CCC for allegedly breaching Covid-19 regulations in helping his club defeat Kinvara (3-13 to 1-13). Moylan subsequently took his case to the Connacht GAA Hearings Committee which upheld the player’s appeal . . . but now the Galway Hearings Committee has appealed that ruling to the GAA’s Central Appeals Committee. In another consequence of Beagh playing Moylan against Kinvara, the Galway CCC proposed that they would be relegated to intermediate ranks, together with proposed eight-week suspensions for Team Manager Brendan Gantley, outgoing Club Chairman Adrian Diviney and Club Secretary Cepta Keane. The Beagh club has now appealed their relegation to the Galway Hearings Committee – an outcome which will be of particular interest to the Kinvara and Kilnadeema/Leitrim senior hurlers. If Beagh’s appeal is unsuccessful, it would mean both those teams would automatically retain their senior status for 2021.
