GALWAY’S Béibhinn Parsons has been named the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Women’s Player of The Year following her breakthrough season in 2019/2020.

The Ballinasloe winger (19) enjoyed a tremendous campaign with the Ireland Women’s Team, scoring three tries during the 2020 Six Nations in a year in which she had to balance her rugby with Leaving Cert studies – all in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Winning the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year award is a real ‘pinch me’ moment,” said Parsons, the youngest-ever woman to play for Ireland when coming on in the 73rd minute of the 19-10 defeat to the USA in Dublin on November 18, 2018, just 12 days shy of her 17th birthday.

“To follow in the footsteps of great players like Ciara Griffin, Claire Molloy and Sene Naoupu is just incredible! To even be nominated for an award of this calibre has exceeded all my expectations. I would have never considered myself to be in the same bracket of players with those women,” says the Galway woman, who now has eight senior caps to her name.
