Wrong way Galway driver misses head-on crash by second as video shows near miss
It could have been a catastrophic crash
This is the moment that a wrong way Galway driver was just a second away from smashing into another vehicle head on.
The video, shared by The Black Cab on social media - a taxi driver in Galway, shows the black jeep, nearest the camera in the photo, driving on the wrong side of the road in Bohermore on Monday for quite some time.
The driver passes the site where Tonerys bar once stood, swerving around the construction bollards still on the right hand side and wrong side of the road.
The driver continues this dangerous driving move for another few seconds before seeing another oncoming jeep driving towards them in the correct lane.
The driver manages to stall on the breaks in the last seconds before swerving around the other vehicle avoiding a catastrophic crash with just inches to spare.
The whole ordeal was captured on the front facing camera of the taxi.
Just last month, a truck driver was forced to block off part of the motorway in Galway after spotting a car driving in the wrong direction, just over a week after the M9 crash that killed five young people.
The car was spotted by the truck driver entering the wrong way down the M18 in the early hours of the morning.
TikTok account KevDeTrucker posted the video to their social media on Tuesday morning captioning the clip “another wrong way driver on the motorway, Oranmore”.
He then decided to park the truck on that stretch of the road, where the car had driven down incorrectly, with hazards on in the hope of stopping any further incidents like it with the video showing the white car which had initially taken the wrong turn now being put in the right direction and driving onto the motorway correctly.
Kev told Galway Live: “The white car in the video came up the motorway the wrong way initially from the Athenry side. I had to tell him to turn around.
“After alerting him with flashes, I had to physically get out of the lorry and tell him to turn around and he turned around in front of me and proceeded in the right direction as shown in the vide.”
