WORK TO BEGIN NEXT MONTH ON CLAREGALWAY SEWERAGE SCHEME

Work on the pipe network system for Claregalway sewerage scheme is to get underway at the end of next month.
Galway County Council is to begin the pipe laying process, which had been due to start in July or August.
Local Cllr Jim Cuddy says a contractor has been identified and work is now ongoing on getting the necessary bond and insurance in place.
The Independent Cllr is now calling on the Environment Minister Phil Hogan to sign off on the treatment plant as a matter of urgency so that the next phase of the project can proceed.
This would involve a Design Build Operate Scheme and will mean that the eight independent treatment plants in Claregalway will be decommissioned.
He says this phase of the scheme is a long-awaited step forward in ensuring the provision of good water quality in Claregalway and surrounding areas.
