WILLIAMSTOWN PROTEST MEETING OVER HOUSEHOLD CHARGE

A mass protest meeting is to take place in Williamstown this weekend in opposition to the household charge.

It follows a series of meetings in the North Galway town to discuss concerns over the impact of austerity measures on rural communities.

The event is one of four public meetings to be held across the city and county in the coming weeks against the 100 euro levy.

The Williamstown demonstration gets underway at 3.30 in the Parochial Hall on Sunday [Feb 19].
