A weeklong search for a missing person who is reported to have entered the River Corrib near Galway City has been called off as the county is hit by a Status Yellow wind warning all day on Thursday.
In a post on social media, Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit said: “We will not be searching on Thursday.
“However, we will continue with our search on Friday, March 13 at 3pm, meeting at the Galway Bay Sailing Club. H91 W678.”
The group added: “We cannot thank our Zone Leaders, Boat Crew, Drone Operators, and Base team enough.

“And indeed all our SAR colleagues involved, along with many volunteers who have walked the shorelines with us.
“All assistance on Friday would be hugely appreciated by OMCSU and the family of the missing person.”
A Status Yellow wind warning will be in place for the island of Ireland on Thursday, with yellow rain warnings also issued for much of the country, including Galway.
Met Éireann has issued the wind warning from midnight until 6pm on Thursday, and has forecast strong and gusty south-westerly winds. The rain warning expires at 3pm on Thursday.
It has warned that the wind could bring difficult travel conditions, and said it could lead to displaced debris or loose objects and falling branches or trees.
The rain warning is for counties Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow as well as for the entire province of Connacht.
It will be in place from 6am on Thursday until 3pm, with Met Éireann saying the rain could lead to flooding and poor visibility.
The search in Galway began on Thursday, March 5 following reports of a person entering the River Corrib.
Operation by land, sea and air has been conducted as part of a joint operation between Rescue 115 and Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit.
