One of the longest spells of warm weather we have ever had is coming to an end

The good times are over on the weather front as the exceptionally warm weather and extended weather alerts for high temperatures have come to an end.

The best of the sunshine on Monday will come in the morning with temperatures hitting 25C.

The nighttime temperatures will be a lot lower than what we have experienced in the last two weeks though with the dial going to 10C as rain and fog promised.

We haven’t seen the word rain in a forecast in a long time but it’s mentioned from Tuesday onwards as we return to normality for Ireland.

This is what Met Eireann is saying for the rest of the week.

Overview: “High pressure dominant. Dry and warm for most but more in the way of cloud than of late, especially in the northwest where it will be cooler.”

Tuesday: “Cloud will extend from the northwest through the morning bringing a little drizzle though it will remain mostly sunny in the south and southeast.

“Better sunny spells will develop through the afternoon and evening though it will remain mostly cloudy in the north and northwest.

“Cooler again in the north and northwest with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

“Warmer further south and east with highest temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees. Light, occasionally moderate north to northwest breezes.”

Wednesday: “A similar day with most places away from the south becoming cloudy for a time in the morning with a little drizzle possible.

“The cloud will be most persistent in the northwest through the day with sunny spells developing elsewhere. Highest temperatures ranging from 17 to 19 degrees in the northwest to 24 or 25 degrees in the southeast, all in light to moderate north to northwest winds.”

Thursday: “Again, largely cloudy for the morning with a little drizzle possible but with better sunny spells developing through the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees generally, warmest in the southeast, in light north to northwest breezes.”

Further Outlook: “Current indications suggest a mix of cloud and sunny spells on Friday with light rain or drizzle, mainly over the northwestern half of the country. More mixed conditions are then likely to develop with rain at times.”
