WARNING TO GALWAY BUSINESSESS OVER RATES CONSULTANTS

Business owners in Galway city are urged to be cautious about hiring 'rates consultants' to renegotiate commerical rates on their behalf.

The City Council says several businesses have been contacted by such 'consultants' saying they can get a reduction in rates for the business.

The service is being offered for an upfront fee and a percentage of any reduction negotiated.

However, the City Council says the Valuations Office in Dublin determines the rateable valuation of a property.

It's not possible to negotiate rates reduction with the City Council.
