The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is warning that any further cuts to the HSE West nursing budget will be unacceptable.

A meeting between the HSE and unions is underway in Merlin Park hospital since midday.

The HSE is updating Impact, SIPTU and the INMO on the current budget deficit at all three Galway hospitals and Roscommon hospital.

Clinical Director of Galway University Hospitals Dr David O'Keeffe and Director of Operations for the HSE West John Hennessy are addressing the unions.

Noreen Muldoon from the INMO in Galway says if student nurses at UHG are not replaced in September, the equivalent of one and a half wards could close.
