One in every 361 people in Galway was the victim of burglary between January and September last year.
According to the latest Garda statistics, there were 694 burglaries in Galway for the first 9 months of last year, an increase of 2 percent on the previous year.
They have been published amid growing concern over the closure of rural Garda stations across the country and a series of aggravated attacks on the elderly in Donegal.
Meanwhile, A Connemara community is looking at ways of organising protection for local people when it loses its Garda Station in the coming weeks.
A public meeting is to be held in Leenane next month at which this issue will top the agenda.
Leenane Garda Station is one of ten Galway stations to be closed.
