TURF CUTTERS GATHER IN ABBEY LOUGHREA TO PROTEST AT TAOISEACH'S VISIT

Date Published: 16-Nov-2012
Turfcutters have gathered in protest in Abbey in Loughrea this evening where the Taoiseach is set to arrive shortly.
He's to officiate at the opening of Abbey Community Centre.
Members of the Barroughter, Ardraigue and Clonmoylan Bog Action Group as well as representatives from the TCCA are picketing to coincide with his visit.
They're calling for a resolution to the long running controversial turf cutting ban on 12 raised bog complexes throughout county Galway.
Speaking while in the city earlier today, Enda Kenny asked the raised bog owners to engage with the Peatlands Council in finding workable solutions.
He said the government WILL continue to work with those who WANT to obey the law of the land.
