TUAM MAN REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION FOLLOWING ASSAULT

A man remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin this morning following an assault in Tuam at the weekend.

22 year old Shane Grogan, from Shop street in Tuam was taken to hospital following the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He has since undergone surgery for head injuries.

At Galway District Court yesterday, 18 year old Shane Byrne, of no fixed abode, was charged with assaulting Shane Grogan at Fairgreen Tuam.

He was remanded in custody to appear again before Harristown District Court this Friday.

Local Councillor Shaun Cuniffe says the town is in shock following the incident
