The 'BIG DIG' of Tuam's streets will take up to two and a half years to complete.

That's according to Galway County Council's Senior Engineer, Liam Gavin who addressed this week's Tuam Town Council meeting.

He said that while the BIG DIG would be very disruptive, it would be worthwhile in the long run.

The works are being carried out to facilitate the provision of underground electricity cables, water and sewerage pipes.
