The Head of Galway Transportation Unit has vowed to tackle traffic delays throughout the city.

Joe Tansey says traffic problems at peak times on the new Seamus Quirke corridor in the west of the city, are largely caused by connecting junctions and their feeder roads.

He says the 1.6 kilometre stretch caters for traffic flow of an average of 20 thousand vehicles daily.

Mr. Tansey adds that work is ongoing to ensure that all signals will be integrated at junctions to the central traffic control room when works reach final completion.

It's hoped this, as well as an ongoing campaign to promote a modal shift to other travel modes such as public transport, walking or cycling will assist the flow of traffic.
