THREE HSE WEST STAFF LOSE JOBS OVER ABSENTEEISM

Three staff from the HSE West have lost their jobs and 104 have been removed from the sick leave scheme due to absenteeism.

A meeting of the Regional Health Forum has been told that the Galway and Roscommon Hospital Group is taking a multi-faceted approach to dealing with the problem.

A 42 percent reduction in absenteeism is reported at the city's public hospitals with the 2012 average rate at GUH now standing at 4.6 percent.

In June, the figure stood at 4.3 percent, this rose to 4.6 in July and dropped in August to 4.3 percent.
