Strong trade has been reported in the early post-Christmas sales in Galway

The buoyant spending yesterday follows what traders have described as a healthy pre Christmas trade in the city and county this year

Although official figures aren't available as yet most traders feel spending was up on last Christmas

Some estimates are putting it at the highest level in 5 years

Retailers are now hoping the Christmas splurge and post Christmas sales will give businesses a boost heading into the new year.
