The National Parks and Wildlife Service is to liase with the Marine Institute towards completing a management plan for Galway Bay.

Local fishermen, particularly in Clarinbridge are concerned for their livelihoods, as they have not received licences to dredge for oysters.

13 licences have been issued so far this year, but no more licences will be issued until a fisheries management plan is produced for inner Galway Bay.

The E.U has ruled that there is over intensification of the oyster bed in the area.

Senator Fidelma Healy-Eames says steps are in train to get the management plan underway.
