STATE ABANDONS PLAN TO PURCHASE HISTORIC HOUSE IN KILCOLGAN

It looks as though a government plan to purchase the historic Tyrone House in Kilcolgan has been abandoned.In the past, Galway County Council has tried to purchase the building on behalf of the Department of the Environment.The house which is privately owned was torched by the IRA in 1920 and is in a state of dis-repair.Gordan St George a descendent of the St . George family who originally owned Tyrone House is criticising the Government for no longer allocating funds to purchase the house.
