The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has told a Galway protest that action will be taken where turf cutting on protected raised bogs continues. Jimmy Deenihan held a brief meeting with around 50 turf cutters who protested over the EU ban at county buildings this morning. There were angry exchanges when the Minister arrived at 9am to demonstrators holding placards and banners with 'Save our bogs' and 'keep rangers out'.He later met with the group where he stated there would be NO u-turn on the turf cutting ban as the country was facing huge fines if the restriction wasn't imposed
