THE theft of memorial Christmas trees in the Claddagh, which had ribbons attached by people who had lost loved ones, has been described as "sickening" by the organisation who put up the memorial trees.

Galway Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

The two memorial Christmas trees were taken overnight from the Claddagh Quay according to Gerard O'Neill, PRO of the Cladonian Mariners Community Boat Club.

He said the theft displays a "sickening" disregard for the feelings of those who had put ribbons on the trees in memory of their loved ones.
