SALTHILL BASED DEVELOPER ORDERED TO STOP ISLAND ROADWORKS

A Salthill-based property developer who drove a truck to the gates of Leinster House has been ordered to stop the unauthorised construction of a road on Achill Island.
41 year old Joe McNamara of Salthill and Achill Island, yesterday gave an undertaking he would comply with a court order requiring him to stop the construction work in Achill.
Mayo County Council alleged that Joe McNamara was asked by its planning officers last Friday to stop four excavators carrying out roadworks in what it calls an area of "high scenic value" at Slievemore Mountain on Achill Island.
The Irish Independent is reporting Mr McNamara allegedly continued with the works, prompting the council to secure a High Court order on Saturday requiring him to stop.
