REPORT BRANDS GALWAY AS GRIDLOCK CITY

Date Published: 22-Mar-2012
Galway has developed a national reputation as "grid-lock city".
That's one of the findings of the Galway mayoral transportation initiative report which has been published this morning [Mar 22].
It also finds that congestion levels are impacting on the economy of the city and region.
Over 13 hundred people responded to a series of surveys carried out by an advisory group set up to find solutions to alleviate the traffic problems in the city.
Paticipants expressed a demand for an enhanced public transport system in order to shift to more sustainable modes of travel.
40 short term measures have been identifed in the report and the group also recommends the establishment of a Task Force/Operational Team to engage all key stakeholders.
