Refusal of Planning for City Rooftop Restaurant appealed

A decision by Galway City Council to refuse permission for a rooftop restaurant on Quay Street has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Fairleigh Limited had sought permission for a new rooftop restaurant and terrace on the existing flat roof of the Quay's Bar.
The project also included associated works such as a new lift and stairs to serve the new restaurant in the service yard at the rear and the extension of an existing stairs adjacent to Druid Lane.
City planners had given Fairleigh Limited three reasons as to why the development, involving a protected structure, was refused.
These included that it would result in excessive over-development of the site.
Fairleigh Limited has now appealed this decision to the higher planning authority.
The case is due to be decided in June (24/06).
