There's been a good response from the public to new proposals for zoning in Oranmore, Athenry and Loughrea.

Galway county council is preparing new local area plans for each town this year.

The proposed issues for each town have prompted 21 submissions to the Oranmore plan, 10 to the Athenry plan and 8 to the Loughrea local area plan.

The county council planning office is now reviewing the submissions and will prepare draft local area plans.

These will then go on public display again for six weeks to allow for more submissions and a managers report will be sent to members of the county council for discussion early next year.
