A public meeting is to be held in Tuam this Thursday [Jan 12] to discuss plans for a major waste recycling facility.

The controversial biogas and anaerobic digestion plant is planned by Bernard Hynes for the former Sugar Factory site at Airglooney.

Galway county council is due to make a decision on the planning application in the middle of next month (feb)

It's proposed the facility would generate energy by recycling beet, silage and other green waste.

However, local residents are concerned that raw human sewage could also be used for the production of gas energy.

The meeting organised by a group of over 20 local residents takes place in Gardenfield National School on the Milltown Road on Thursday evening at 7.30.
