PUBLIC MEETING ON ATHENRY'S POOR ROADS

Date Published: 15-Dec-2008
Businesses and residents living in Athenry are holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the poor conditions of local roads. Constant traffic of as many as 800 trucks journeys a day working on the new N6 Dublin road are being blamed for damaging the roads. A decision was made on Friday by the county council and the National Roads Authority to improve the worst affected roads from Ballygurane down to Cashla towards Lisheenkyle and Castlelambert. It's hoped that the roads will be completely re-surfaced after the N6 construction ends after Easter. The public meeting takes place at 8pm in the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry. Mayor of county Galway cllr Peter Feeney says the repairs should improve the roads in the run-up to Christmas.
