PORTUMNA CHAMBER WELCOMES PLAN TO REBUILD HOTEL

Date Published: 08-Sep-2011

The President of Portumna Chamber of Commerce says it's good news today to hear that there are hopes of rebuilding a local hotel, which was damaged by fire.

The blaze broke at around 1p.m yesterday at the Shannon Oaks Hotel and Country Club and fire crews from Galway, Tipperary and Offaly rushed to the scene.

It's thought the fire started in the kitchen of the hotel, which employs around 60 staff.

Phone lines have been set up today to provide information to customers.

The lodges on the grounds are not affected by the fire.

President of Portumna Chamber of Commerce, Tony Williams, says it's good news that the hotel won't be lost to the town.
