A planning application for the construction of a new school for Colaiste na Coiribe in Knocknacarra is to be lodged next week.

The plan provides for a purpose built secondary school on a site in Ballyburke.

The school is currently based on the Tuam Road in the city where it caters for 375 students.

Members of Galway City VEC are to be briefed on the plans by architects at a meeting to be held next month (Dec 12).

Cllr Donal Lyons who is Chairperson of Galway City VEC and a member of the Board of Management at the school says it's an important step in a long running campaign for a new facility.
