OFF-LICENCE APPLICATION REFUSED TO TESCO NEWCASTLE

Date Published: 31-Jan-2012
Plans for an off-licence at Tesco Express in Newcastle have been refused.
At Galway District Court today, Judge Mary Fahy rejected the application.
Residents and local businesses in the area had lodged objections due to concerns such as oversupply and the possibility of anti-social behaviour.
A spokesperson for Tesco Ireland told Galway Bay fm news that the company is now "considering its options" following today's decision but refused to confirm or deny plans for a fresh application.
Local businessman Jonathan Corbett says he welcomes the decision as the area is already well served with off-licences.
