O'CUIV SAYS IMMEDIATE THREAT TO ARAN ISLAND AIR SERVICE LIFTED

Date Published: 04-Jan-2013
It's hoped that the immediate threat to the Aran Island air service is now lifted following a sustained transport funding allocation in December's budget.
Galway West Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon O'Cuiv says funding for island ferry and air services remains the same for 2013 as was in place for 2012, which he hopes should ensure the survival of the air service this year.
Last month, Minister of State at the Department Dinny McGinley said he would do everything in his power to protect the service but no decision could be made until financial allocations were made clear.
Deputy O'Cuiv says he's hopeful the immediate threat is now lifted, however the longer term situation must be clarified as the current contract with Aer Arann will expire on the 31st of August
He's to raise the matter when the Dail resumes later this month.
