NUIG STUDENTS UNION CANCELS RAG WEEK

Date Published: 18-Oct-2011
NUI Galway Students' Union has confirmed it will not organise a Rag Week next spring.
At a meeting of the Students' Union Council last night, it was decided by a majority vote that the Students' Union would not organise any Rag Week events.
The move came following a proposal from the SU that the University should provide a number of concessions in return for co-operation by the SU.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm News, the Students' Union says the antics of a minority of young people have resulted in anti social behaviour, particularly in residential areas close to the University.
The statement goes on to say that the actions of a minority of people have been very destructive and the Students' Union has decided not to continue supporting Rag Week.
