A new super-sized model of a heart valve developed by researchers at NUI Galway could provide scientists with new clues to blood flow.

The working model valve is 6 times the size of a normal valve and runs 100 times slower, allowing researchers to find out more information about how blood cells move through the valve.

Current heart valves can lead to unnatural blood flows which can cause blood clots in patients.
