NUI Galway students wait two weeks for counselling
Galway Bay fm newsroom - Students at NUI Galway can get an appointment with a counsellor within two weeks of calling the Student Counselling service.
Before being added to a waiting list, students at the university with mental health concerns can avail of a drop-in assessment.
A Student's Union spokesperson says that during exam periods, the waiting list at NUI Galway's Students Counselling service is longer- but every effort is made to accomodate students as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, cutbacks are causing a crisis for students with mental-health issues at colleges across the country.
According to today's Irish Times, students at UCD are waiting up to six weeks to see a counsellor.
Nationally, the number of students attending counselling services has increased by 33% since 2006.
