Northwest MEP Jim Higgins has called for a clamp-down on credit and debit card fraud in Ireland.

He says the ECB must take swift action to legislate for common EU security standards for card payments.

An ECB report revealed that such card fraud cost the Irish economy over 25 million euro in 2011, with 90 percent of this taking place without possession of the card.

MEP Higgins says the need for higher security is essential to stop credit card fraud.
