A number of different lines of enquiry are being investigated in relation to an armed robbery at a filling station in Ballinasloe.

A gang of men armed with hand tools and wearing balaclavas, entered Dolan's supermarket at Kilgarve on the Athlone road after 5am on Thursday.

The gang threatened staff and customers at the 24 hour shop before stealing thousands of cigarettes and a quantity of cash from the till.

They then escaped in a car, understood to be a black BMW 645 series convertible in the direction of the old Dublin road.

Gardaí have confirmed no arrests have been made, and the car has yet to be located.
