NINE PERCENT INCREASE IN MEDICAL CARDS FOR GALWAY

The average cost for patients who visited their GP in Galway in 2009 was €320.The latest figures obtained by the Irish Patients Association show huge discrepancies between the fees received by GPs in different parts of the country.At the end of May there were over 95,000 medical card patients in Galway compared to 87,000 up to January last year.This represents an increase of almost 9%.The IPA says the Government won't be able to afford its proposed new universal health insurance plan.
