New mayor set to take the reins next month

Galway City will get a new mayor next month.
Noel Larkin, independent Galway City councillor, is in line to succeed current first citizen, Fine Gael’s Frank Fahy, at the AGM of the local authority on June 10.
The mayoral chain and office is rotated every year following a vote. The ruling pact on the Council – Fine Gael, Labour and five Independents – came to an agreement on who would become mayor during negotiations following the 2014 local elections.
Donal Lyons (Ind), and Fahy (FG) held the mayorship in the first two years of the five-year term of this Council. Cllr Larkin is up next with Pearce Flannery (FG) and Niall McNelis (Lab) pencilled in for the following two years.
