NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM BEGINS WORK AT GALWAY'S PUBLIC HOSPITALS

A new management team will begin work at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park hospital today.

Following an interim process, Bill Maher has been appointed chief executive for both hospitals.

Tony Canavan has been appointed chief operations manager and Maurice Power has been appointed chief financial officer.

The team will be tasked with the management and operation of the hospital group which is the largest acute hospital outside of Dublin.

Chairperson of the HSE regional forum, councillor Padraig Conneely says the new group is facing a multitude of challenges.
