Hundreds of new home owners in the city could be liable for charges if the previous owner of the property didn't pay the second home tax.

The 200 euro Non-Principal Private Residence charge has been in place for the past 2 years.

A charge of 20 euro per month is also imposed for arrears, even if the new owner plans to live in the home.

Councillor Padraig Conneely says solicitors acting on behalf of new buyers need to request confirmation of payment of the levy.
