MORE TIME TO PREPARE EVIDENCE AGAINST CONNEMARA MURDER ACCUSED

Date Published: 06-Jan-2009
A Galway Judge has extended the period of time for Gardai to prepare a book of evidence against a 22 year-old Czech man charged with the murder of a Czech woman in Connemara last year. Jacob Fidler of Cartur Leathan, Na Minne, Indreabhán was last evening further remanded in custody to appear before Harristown district court in eleven days time. Jacob Fidler's hearing at Galway District Court was delayed for several hours yesterday after his certified Czech interpreter failed to appear in court. Inspector Mick Coppinger said there had been an oversight in Harristown District court in relation to the date of the hearing. Gardai managed to procure the services of another translation company and a new interpreter translated the hearing for the accused. Fidler is charged with the murder of 19 year-old Nicola Vonkova at Cartur Leathan, Na Minne on July 21st 2008. Judge Fahy extended the time for serving the book of evidence and remanded Jacob Fidler in custody to Harristown District Court on January 16th at 10.30.
