The annual Vibe For Philo takes place in Monroe’s Live this Friday, January 11. The night is a celebration of the life and music of Thin Lizzy front man Phil Lynott.

With musicians from across Ireland taking part, it will feature a set of songs that are revered by rock fans all over the world.

Thin Lizzy were in the headlines last year when The Boys Were Back In Town was used by Republican Mitt Romney’s team as part of his failed run at the US presidency. Philomena Lynott was highly critical that her son’s music was used in such a way.

At the time she told Hot Press about her reaction.

“I am really upset at Philip’s music being used in a political way that he himself would not have approved of. As far as I’m concerned, Mitt Romney’s opposition to gay marriage and to civil unions for gays makes him anti-gay, which is not something that Philip would have supported.”

While admitting there was nothing she could do except express her objections, she said that “a lot of fans and musicians are very angry about it, and I can understand why.”

Fans might have been angry, but it didn’t help the Republicans and it will have done little to dull the lustre of Phil Lynott’s legacy. Expect to hear gems like The Boys Are Back In Town, Rosalie, Sarah and Whiskey In the Jar at a celebration of a true rock icon.

Doors 9pm, admission €15/ €13.50 online.
