The Minister for Children is calling on the public's support for the upcoming Children's Referendum.

Minister Frances Fitzgerald made the call as part of a key note address at the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre in NUIG this evening.

The address focuses on a new era in child protection and is part of a forum on children's rights at the University.

The referendum is expected to be held this year and is one of the key commitments by government in relation to children and young people.

The Minister is also launching a new Guide to Youth Mentoring by Professor Pat Dolan and Bernadette Brady of the NUIG Child and Family Research Centre.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Minister Fitzgerald says everyone has a role to play in child protection.
